Our Story
La Rumba Bar & Grill was created in 2014 by Jorge and Mirna Portillo, proud Salvadoran entrepreneurs with a story rooted in resilience and reunion. At just 17 years old, Jorge came to the U.S., where he faced the challenges of immigration, language barriers, and even homelessness — yet his entrepreneurial spirit drove him to build a better future.
Jorge and Mirna grew up as childhood neighbors in El Salvador but were separated by the civil war. For years they lost contact, until fate brought them back together in a restaurant at age 24. Their reunion became the beginning of not only a love story, but also a shared dream.
Together, they built La Rumba from their passion for food, culture, and community. Today, we’re proud to serve authentic Latin American flavors, fresh ingredients, and craft cocktails in a space designed for friends and families to gather, celebrate, and feel the vibrant spirit of Latin America.
